What I’m writing…

breaking waves

Breaking Waves is a book that centres women, the primal powers of femininity and water, instilling a sense of wellbeing, community and a connection with nature, with each other and with ourselves.

It is underpinned by my own story, the tragic death of my brother, and how there is no perfect way to remember, to exist, to live, to grieve. Through the medium of open water, and the stories of the women I have met along the way, Breaking Waves shows how we navigate the unknowable path that we call life, and the power of coming together.

The narrative flow matches the unexpected course of the waves as it unfolds in both ordinary and extraordinary ways.

LITTLE TUFTS OF TEA

Put the kettle on and I’ll tell you a story…

Little Tufts of Tea begins by taking the reader to rural Ireland in the 1950s. To times where embers were stoked in the morning for the cast iron kettle, where fresh spring water was boiled to make a pot of Irish tea, served with milk straight from the cow. These stories are as told to me by my mother, painting a picture of the cultures and traditions of my own heritage.

As we plan a trip together to India her stories and memories are intertwined with those of people from Kerala to Korea, as I learn the significance of tea as a love language, and how we pass down family history in ways other than words.

And as for the tea? Well that has it’s own story to tell…

SUNS ALWAYS RISE

Suns Always Rise was inspired by a very special place that I happened upon at a difficult time, and found a haven of peace, calm and love. It was here that I met one of several people who restored my faith in humanity, tolerance and kindness in a complex world.

This is a collection of tales of ‘ordinary’ people who are anything but, reflecting eternal themes of courage, love, compassion and hope.
